Eating Our Way Through New Orleans' Buku Festival Slideshow

Woody's Fish Tacos

Woody's offered blackened fish, sautéed shrimp, gator sausage, or black bean tacos using fresh and local ingredients. They're all topped with cabbage salad and remoulade sauce.

Frying Beignets

Beaucoup Beignets fried their desserts on-site.

Beaucoup Beignets

This stand offered an order of beignets for $4 and beignets stuffed with strawberries and mint for $7.

Smallpools

California natives, Smallpools, played early on Friday to get the crowd excited for the weekend.

Festival-Goers

Attendees of the festival dressed for the occasion in their most flowery outfits.

City Greens

City Greens offered a southwest salad, quinoa salad, jerk chicken wrap, and a turkey wrap. Wash one of those down with a cucumber lemonade for $5. They were serving up some healthier options for attendees.

Lettuce Party

And with your purchase at City Greens, you got a free pair of these awesome sunglasses.

Fireman Mike's

Classic New Orleans jambalaya was $7. And at Fireman Mike's, everything was served with fried chicken tenders, because why not?

Red Beans & Rice

The red beans and rice were also available vegetarian-style.

Fried Oreos

The fried Oreos were a must get at Buku, though beware of sugar overload from all three.

The NOLA Schnitzel

One of the items we were looking forward to most was the NOLA Schnitzel from Bratz Y'all. It's a fried breaded pork loin topped with crawfish remoulade slaw on a bun.

White Guy Pad Thai

White Guy Pad Thai came all the way from Los Angeles to serve their made-to-order pad Thai.

Tofu Pad Thai

The pad Thai was available in chicken or tofu, plus the option to add bacon.

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony

The Cleveland rap group put on a great show on Friday evening.

Pad Thai Sign

Some attendees wait for their pad Thai.

BUKookoff

On Saturday at the festival, four attendees competed in a cooking competition, the BUKookoff. They were timed, Top Chef style, and had to create a Buku-inspired dish. The winner, Robert Chachere, made a grilled cheese with brie and caramel cinnamon apples.

Sliders

Beaucoup Juice & Grill offered a variety of foods for festival-goers, including black bean burger sliders and pulled pork sliders.

Tamales

They also offered vegetarian or chicken tamales.

Pie for the People

Without a doubt, the longest line over the weekend was for pizza. They do festivals around the country, but their restaurant is located in Joshua Tree, California. They were serving six types of pizza — cheese, pepperoni, caprese, margherita, Go Westo Ma Pesto (Pesto Crust, Spinach, Rosemary Roasted Potatoes, Guinness Caramelized Onions, Feta), and David Bowie (mozzarella, Guinness caramelized onions, jalapeños, pineapple, bacon, and a sweet plum sauce drizzle).

Gyro

Efe's Greek Food served three different kinds of gyros (lamb, chicken, and falafel) plus a cheese steak and cheese fries.
