Remember when your teacher used to scold, “If you’re talking, you’re not learning.” She was right, of course – but one might easily paraphrase that to, “If you’re talking, you’re not eating.” Except that these days, people are actually talking a lot about food.
To wit, Taste Talks Brooklyn, which returns for its fourth year this week (September 8-10). What to expect? Well, it’s basically a three-day symposium (panels, expos) on the current and future state of food geekdom, flitting between three trendy BKNY hotels: The William Vale, The Wythe and The Williamsburg. There will be hotshot chefs, naturally: Andrew Carmellini (The Dutch, Locanda Verde, Lafayette), Wylie Dufresne (Du’s Donuts), Angie Mar (Beatrice Inn). And lots of fascinating insights on how we eat today.
But it’s not all pontification, certainly. The annual Tasty Awards will take place at the Weylin on Friday evening, with more than 30 honors being bestowed on all those who are currently making foodies all hot and bothered – followed by a decadent, until-midnight after-party. And on Sunday, it’s the mad fun All Star Cookout, with five hours of bands and BBQ assuring your Monday food coma.
