Servers: Keep Your Insults To Yourself Slideshow

Cameo Club Casino

Last weekend three women were handed a restaurant bill that called them "Fat Girls."

The women had dinner at the Chilly D's restaurant in the Cameo Club Casino in Stockton, Calif., on Thursday, but when they asked for the bill they discovered that server Jeff had identified them as "Fat Girls."

"I got the bill, I was looking at the bill and was like, 'Why does this receipt say 'fat girls'?" Christine Duran said to News 10.

Duran said she notified the manager, but he "had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but he was trying not to laugh."

The manager offered a 25-percent discount on the $25.50 check, then upped it to 50 percent, but both offers were rejected.

According to ABC News, casino owner Maggie Lewis later apologized on Facebook and said the insult was "intolerable."

"I just want to tell them we're sincerely sorry and we'll do everything in our power to make sure this never happens to anyone again," said Chilly D's co-owner Jimmy Siemers, who says he was not working the night of the incident.

Hooters

The New York Times reported in September that two Korean immigrants walked into a Hooters in Queens and received a receipt where the derogatory term "chinx" was typed in where a customer's name should be.

The lawsuit alleged that after Kisuk Cha and his girlfriend placed their order for Buffalo shrimp and chicken wings, they noticed their server and another employee standing at the computer, laughing and "gawking" at the two of them, the lawsuit said.

Meanwhile, a representative for the Fresh Meadows Hooters told The New York Times that when Cha's lawyer, Daniel D. Baek, notified the company, restaurant management investigated the incident. A 17-year-old hostess reportedly admitted to typing in "chinx" and resigned.

Twisted Root Burger

In August Reddit unveiled a receipt where an attractive customer was rewarded with a $0.02 discount, one penny off for having the "best butt," another for being the "best looking." Sweet or creepy? Reddit user caraficionado24 went with sweet, writing, "A friend of mine got complimented rather sneakily at Twisted Root Burger."

Twisted Root Burger, a Texas burger chain, is actually best known for their burgers (explaining the "Meat is murder, tasty tasty murder" note on the bottom), so why anyone would order a veggie bowl is beyond us. And while this receipt could be a Photoshop job, it's not quite scandolous enough to be fake.

The Landmark Steakhouse

Landmark Steakhouse in Orange County, Calif. settled in February with an African-American businessman who filed a federal lawsuit after finding derogatory names on his receipts.

Terms of the settlement have not been announced; the receipts reportedly had the derogatory "N" word on them, as well as nicknames such as "McCottonwood."

The plaintiff, Mark McHenry, would visit the Orange County restaurant and bar two to three times a week. McHenry claims the workers would sometimes comment, "Black is the new white," but let it go.

After one visit, however, McHenry "reviewed his receipts and was 'appalled' to see 'Mc Stinky' followed by the N-word in the space designated for customer name on one credit card receipt. On a second receipt the customer name was listed as 'Mc' followed by a combination of the first half of the N-word and the four-letter S-word profanity for excrement," MSNBC reports.

The bartender reportedly sent McHenry apologetic texts, saying, "Just wanted to apologize for that tab, dude. You know we were totally jokin' around." The bartender has since been fired.

Papa John's

In January, a customer who visited a Papa John's in New York was reportedly handed a receipt with the name "lady chinky eyes."

She tweeted a photo of the receipt and the message, "Hey@PapaJohns just FYI my name isn't 'lady chinky eyes.'"

The photo has since received more than 200,000 views, and Papa John's issued an apology via Facebook and Twitter.

"We were extremely concerned to learn of the receipt issue in New York," they wrote. "This act goes against our company values, and we've confirmed with the franchisee that this matter was addressed immediately and that the employee is being terminated. We are truly sorry for this customer's experience."

Chick-fil-A

In December 2011, a blogger wrote about an incident at the University of California, Irvine, where a cashier named two customers "CHING" and "CHONG" on their order receipts.

It's important to note that the cashier, "Lia," didn't ask for their names, instead inventing these names simply because the customers were Asian.

According to the source, "I went to talk to the manager, and I told him that this cannot happen ever again. I chose to be calm about it, but I was ready to go off. I made it known that it wasn't ok, and that I didn't appreciate it whatsoever. I think I indirectly fired Lia..."

Apparently, Lia was fired. In a response to Grub Street, Chick-fil-A said that "the employee was immediately dismissed for the individual behavior."

Chick-fil-A's PR head, Jerry Johnston, said that Lia's action "does not support any claim or even suggestion of racism at our restaurant." Still, this episode can't help the already floundering reputation of the fast-food chicken chain.
