Sarah Rinkavage, a James Beard Rising Star nominee, leaving Marisol

Sarah Rinkavage, who was nominated by the James Beard Foundation as the Rising Star Chef of the Year last spring (one of five 2018 nominees nationwide), is leaving her post at Marisol (205 E. Pearson St.).

Rinkavage will leave Marisol in mid-December.

With Rinkavage as chef de cuisine (a position she also held at Lula Cafe in Logan Square), Marisol, which opened in late 2017, made just about every best-new-restaurant list that mattered, including those of Bon Appetit and Forbes magazines. And earned two stars from yours truly.

Jason Hammel, chef and owner of Marisol and Lula Cafe, will continue to oversee Marisol until a replacement is announced. An “exciting” announcement, per Marisol’s representatives, is expected soon.

“It has been an incredible experience working with Jason Hammel, especially to build and launch the innovative restaurant Marisol,” Rinkavage said in a statement. “I am looking forward to creative new projects, after I take some time to travel.”

Given Rinkavage’s talent (“she’s brilliant,” Hammel said to me a year ago), let’s hope those travels don’t lead her far away.
