The Daily Dish: August 28, 2015
Welcome to The Daily Meal’s Daily Dish, where we highlight what’s hot and trending in the world of all things food and drink.
Today’s first course?
In fast food news, more than 100 people have fallen ill in California after eating Chipotle. Authorities are investigating a foodborne illness that spread at a Simi Valley Chipotle last week.
And both McDonald’s and its supplier Tyson are cutting ties with a chicken farm that has been linked to animal abuse. The advocacy group Mercy for Animals published a video purporting to show poor practices at a farm in Tennessee.
Facebook is launching a virtual assistant that will make dinner reservations for you. The new feature known as ‘M’ will be tested in the San Francisco Bay Area. The service is free and will soon be available to all users.
Now that America has significantly expanded travel to Cuba, Philadelphia Cuba Libre chef Guillermo Pernot, a two-time James Beard Award-winner, is inviting Americans on a guided food tour of the country, complete with dinners hosted by renowned Cuban chefs.
And, Butter and Bachata, y’all! Paula Deen is joining the upcoming season (the 21st) of ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ This is not the first time the ABC reality show has approached Deen. In 2010, when she was invited, she said, "I said no, fat girls don't look good sweating." Well, the former Food Network star has reportedly lost more than 30 pounds and so apparently isn’t as concerned with how she’ll turn on the dance floor. Good for her!
And that’s today's Daily Dish. Thanks for watching. Stop by tomorrow for another helping.
