4-Year-Old Texas Boy Crushed To Death By Barbecue Pit Shaped Like A Giant Gun

A four-year-old boy in Liberty County, Texas, died earlier this week when a steel barbecue pit in the shape of a giant revolver fell over and crushed him to death.

Police believe that the boy, Bryan Jara, was trying to crawl on top of the pit when it fell on top of him.  The pit, which was quite heavy and custom-made to resemble a revolver-style pistol, was mounted on a base with wheels.

Jara became pinned under the barbecue pit when it fell over, and was unconscious by the time his mother, who had heard the thud of the fall, ran outside to help her son.

"I just heard the lady scream and once we got over there, we just saw the grill was on top of the kid's head," Juan Martinez, a neighbor who tried to help rescue the boy, told KHOU. "It was pretty heavy —when we lifted it up, we barely were able to pick it up because it was so heavy."

Jara was rushed to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
