No matter what time of the day or night, they found, a cup of caffeinated coffee had positive effects on "alertness and improved performance on a variety of tasks."

Caffeine has been shown to decrease the body's sensitivity to insulin, the hormone that regulates the metabolizing of carbohydrates and fats, helping to guard against diabetes.

Slow Carbohydrate Absorption

Coffee may slow the absorption of carbohydrates via a naturally occurring compound, chlorogenic acid. That means you have more time to burn off those carbs before they get stored as fat.
