The 2018 FIFA World Cup is underway in Russia and everybody who's anybody knows that soccer fans are some of the loudest and proudest supporters in the world. Cuvée Des Jonquilles is a Bière de Garde-style brew; beers of this type are traditionally produced in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in Northern France. This strong pale ale has bread, melon, and pear aromas and a Champagne mouthfeel and tastes of malt, fruit, honey, and crackers.

Surtur Nr. 38 is an Imperial Stout named after a Jötunn, an Earth-scorching giant in Norse mythology. This winter seasonal has a trifecta of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel aromas. The same flavors are prevalent to the taste in addition to fire-roasted corn, coffee, burnt sugar, and licorice.

Imperium Prunum is a pretty big deal. It's rated as the world's best Baltic Porter by reviewers at RateBeer. This smoked brew smells of coffee, chocolate, pralines, and plum. Drinkers can expect the same sweet and smoky tastes, and a warm finish.

Mean Sardine Brewery Voragem
ABV: 7 percent
There's nothing mean about this Black IPA. Voragem has nice, slightly intense aromas of roasted malt, pine, and tropical fruit. The taste is herbal, floral, malty, and hoppy with a semi-bitter finish.

ABV: 10.3 percent
Melankholiya means "Winter Melancholy" in Russian — a fitting name since you can only find this Baltic Porter during colder months. It has heavy smells and flavors of coffee beans, bourbon, and vanilla. You'd never expect this silky-smooth drink has a high alcohol content, but it will surely keep you warm all winter long.

This Caramel Stout is aged for about six months in oak barrels that once contained apple brandy. The end result is chestnut and vanilla on the nose, and caramel apples with a nice alcohol kick on the tongue. You may also find notes of dark fruit, licorice, and pear. RateBeer named 02 one of the top 50 stouts in the world.

Petrolaco is slightly sticky yet milky smooth. On the nose is cold brew and cocoa, which also appears on the palate alongside vanilla and malt. This Imperial Stout is applauded for its creaminess, and will leave a cake-like taste lingering in your throat.

ABV: 10.5 percent
In a blind taste test, you might confuse this beer for liquid dessert. As the name suggests, you'll find an abundance of maple in addition to toasted coconut, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate aromas and tastes. Ratebeer lists this sweet brew as a top 50 contender for the best Imperial Porter.

Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes Abbaye de St Bon-Chien
ABV: 11 percent
If you like your beer sour and funky, Abbaye de St Bon-Chien is your guy. This wild ale is aged in oak wine barrels for a year. It's fragrant with red wine, vinegar, oak, berries, and citrus. Similar tart tastes twinkle on the palate, as well as cherries. In French, Bon-Chien means "good dog," but funny enough, it was the name of the brewer's late cat.

ABV: 5.8 percent
Crack open a bottle of this American-style IPA and you'll feel as if you're face-first in a pine tree. Intense citrus aromas also exist in this brew. You can expect the same tastes and an overwhelmingly bitter and dry finish.

Alcohol distribution is prohibited by Islamic law in Iran, but brewers around the country still produce non-alcoholic varieties. Istak's Mango fruit beer basically speaks for itself. It smells and tastes like fresh mango, but also has a note of sweet malt.

Legend has it a ghost named Tulivieja — who is half woman and half bird — haunts the streets of Panama and Costa Rica punishing lustful men and scaring children. Casa Bruja's version of the story has Tulivieja wandering the country in search of a "strong and tasty beer" — same difference. This IPA has nice citrus and vanilla smells with malt, peach, and resin tastes.

This jet-black Russian imperial stout is known as Ithaca in Brazil and Guanabara in the U.S. It smells like brown sugar, grain, bittersweet chocolate, and coffee. It tastes like malt, fig, plum, vanilla, and chocolate with honorable mentions of light coffee and black licorice.

Mestiza is an American pale ale with vibrant fruity, herbal, and floral aromas. It has a creamy mouthfeel with lots of orange zest and minty hops. It's fresh, perfectly carbonated, and finishes nice and tart.

Sierra Andina Pachacutec Imperial Ale
ABV: 10.5 percent
Pachacutec was the ninth ruler of the Kingdom of Cusco, which he evolved into the Inca Empire in the 1400s. This inspired Sierra Andina to create a bold and sophisticated beer that they claim is the strongest in Peru. Aromas are earthy and bready with hints of caramel and molasses. Same goes for the taste, plus fruit and malt.
