Yards Brewing is looking for a new tap handle design, and NextFab Studio is a coworking home for industrial designers. It’s a match made in heaven — all it’s missing is you! If you have an idea for a new draft pull for Philly’s iconic brewery and are handy with a tool or two, enter the Tap Handle Throwdown.
Part of October’s DesignPhiladelphia Festival, the contest will collect actual working prototypes of new tap handles for Yards. To participate, register here and then spend some time at the NextFab space on Washington Avenue in Graduate Hospital. The studio is equipped with the latest in extrusion, modeling, engraving, cutting and 3-D printing systems, so you’ll be able to translate the vision in your head into something concrete. Turn over your prototype by Aug. 27, to be eligible to win. The collected entries will be tested out in the field, at events hosted by Yards throughout September. On Oct. 17, there’s a gala finale event where the public will vote for the best tap. If you win, you’ll get a $200 gift card from Yards (*this qualifies as a fortune in our book), a $150 afternoon of eating and drinking at the Yards Tasting Room on Delaware Avenue, a six-month membership to NextFab Studio, and a complete outfit of Yards apparel.
Check out all the details and specifications here, and may the best tap designer win.
