The Definitive Ranking Of Store-Bought Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Slideshow

The Definitive Ranking of Store-Bought Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Our editors evaluated the cookies based on taste, appearance, and dough-to-chip ratio. The doughs were scored, tallied, and ranked accordingly. Surprisingly, for cookie doughs with a limited variation in ingredients — flour, sugar, oil, butter, and chocolate chips — these cookies varied significantly in appearance. From golden brown to a deeper gray in color, and in texture from soft and chewy to crisp and crunchy.

Check out our ranking starting with the least favorite and ending with the most favorite store-bought chocolate chip cookie dough brands.

#6 Trader Joe’s Chunky Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

This store-brand has become ubiquitous for inexpensive, tasty treats. While we do enjoy a trip to Trader Joe's not all of their products measure up, and unfortunately, this would be one of those missteps.

Trader Joe’s: The Cookie

Some of the issues our editors had with the Trader Joe's brand cookies included the "gray-ish color," and bitter after-taste. However, most agreed that this chocolate chip cookie had a great chewy texture.

#5 Eat Pastry Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

We included Eat Pastry, a gluten-free brand, because of its wide-availability (Whole Foods Market, Amazon, and various other grocery stores).

Eat Pastry: The Cookie

Our editors noted the soft texture of the cookie, its tendency to fall apart, and not enough chocolate for cons to the brand. However, most liked the initial taste of the cookie.

#4 Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Toll House might hold the claim to the invention of the chocolate chip cookie, but it did not come out on top. Nestlé Toll House dough can be purchased at grocery stores and markets nationwide.

The cookie itself was ranked among one of the most visually appealing, but overall our editors found that it needed more chocolate and a chewier texture to earn the ranking of best chocolate chip cookie.

#3 Immaculate Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough

Immaculate cookie doughs are available at grocery stores across the country, including large chains like Publix and Whole Foods Market. The brand prides itself on quality ingredients and is partnered with the Non-GMO Project.

Immaculate: The Cookie

The cookie made it into our top three because of its chewy texture and sweet, brown sugar taste, but across the board editors felt this cookie needed more chocolate.

#2 Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

The Pillsbury Doughboy would be proud that his chocolate chip cookie dough ranked second in our taste test. This classic store-bought cookie dough is one of the most widely distributed and can be found nationwide at grocery stores, markets, and convenience stores.

Our editors loved the crunchy, yet chewy texture of this cookie, buttery taste, and chocolate to cookie ratio. However, some of our editors felt this cookie tasted too safe and standard.
