Blogger Spotlight: Feeding Big And More

This week, we're proud to feature Cynthia Landrie of Feeding Big and More in the Blogger Spotlight. For those new to the column, every Friday, we highlight a member of The Daily Meal's Culinary Content Network, a limited group of bloggers who write about food and drink.

We look to this group of talented food writers for inspiration and participation in The Daily Meal, whether for restaurant recommendations or new recipes to try out for dinner. Our editorial team covers All Things Food and Drink, and we tap the CCN to keep up to speed on what is happening around the country and the world — from fine dining to home cooking.

Cynthia Landrie resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia and is the blogger at and creator of Feeding Big – and more!. She is a stay-at-home mom and spends her time preparing home-cooked meals for her family. Landrie's mantra is that cooking is not just about preparing food for the dinner table — it's about giving a gift to those you love.

The Daily Meal: What is the mission of you blog?
Sharing great recipes that you can make on a budget. Budgeting doesn't mean having to eat beans and rice for every meal. I love to take recipes and recreate them so they fit in my $5 dinner plan.

How did you get started with your blog?
I started blogging many years ago about my home that was built in 1900. Then, we moved and I had to change directions! I now post recipes (and more) that mainly deal with feeding a family of four for around $5.

What are some foods you can't live without?
Anything with sugar in it!

What is your least favorite food?
Tomatoes.

What is your proudest blog post?
I think my most recent posts are always my favorites. I love my BBQ Ribs in Strawberry Chipotle Sauce!

What is your biggest blog blunder?
I do this often. I set a post aside to be scheduled and then forget that I need to go in and add something. Then, when it goes live, I have to hustle to get the post down and finished.

What is your most memorable comment from a reader?
I recently had a lady leave a comment about my Asparagus Quiche. She said she took it to a potluck and they loved it. Comments like that are why I blog.

What's on your cooking playlist?
Marvin Gaye and Barry White. I love food and love to play music about love! [pullquote:right]

What are your favorite food blogs?
I have always been a fan of Ree Drummond. There are many others too, but I can't think of them right now.

Favorite food apps?
Not much of an apps girl!

What is the best thing about blogging?
Meeting new people and building relationships.

Worst things about blogging?
Keeping up with all of the social media changes!

What recipe are you currently obsessed with?
Anything that has some heat in it — jalapeños, chipotle — well, you get it!

What would even your most loyal followers be surprised to learn about you?
I am a pretty shy person. I don't talk a lot about myself, but if you ask, I will tell you anything. Also, maybe the fact that I am almost 60 years old.
