In College, The Host Drinks The Most

Etiquette books, comedy skits, and "one crazy night" movies constantly warn of the inebriated guest — the guy who shows up completely plastered and leaves nothing but chaos and vomit-filled shoes in his wake. According to a new survey, though, there's a good chance that that person could be the host.

An online survey of nearly 3,800 college students who had hosted or attended parties revealed that guests at parties typically reported consuming about seven drinks, while people who hosted off-campus parties reportedly drank nine.

Hosts of on-campus parties, however, kept it together and reportedly consumed only four.

According to UPI, researcher Cynthia Buettner of Ohio State University says it elevates the risk factor of a party when the host is the drunkest person in the room.

"When you drink heavily, that means that you're not in a state where you can control what happens at your party, in terms of who shows up and what sort of behavior's OK," Buettner said in a statement. So just because you don't have to walk home, doesn't mean you should go all out at your own party.
