City Considers Charging To Surrender Pets At Shelter

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Most animal shelters charge a fee when you adopt a pet. But the City of Arlington is discussing charging a fee to anyone surrendering an animal.

The city council is considering charging $25 to anyone who voluntarily surrenders a cat or dog. The fees would pay for a shelter veterinarian, and an animal cruelty investigator.

Opponents of the fee say it will result in pet dumping and that people would rather just abandon their animals than pay $25 to take them to a shelter.

But an Arlington code compliance officer told NewsRadio 1080 KRLD pet dumping is already a problem, even without a fee.
