Chains Debut New Burgers, Sandwiches
Restaurant chains across the country introduced new burgers and other sandwiches this week.
Wendy’s continued to expand its offerings with the addition of the W cheeseburger, a mid-priced sandwich that fills the price-point between its 99-cent Everyday Value Menu burger and the premium Dave’s Hot ‘N Juicy Cheeseburger.
The W is made with two 2.5-ounce beef patties, two slices of cheese and a signature sauce, and has a suggested price of $2.99.
The W also features the same upgraded ingredients as Dave’s Hot ‘N Juicy: red onions, hand-leafed lettuce, crinkle-cut pickles, and a buttered and toasted bun.
“With the W, Wendy’s gives cheeseburger lovers an indulgent taste experience at a great price,” said Gerard Lewis, Wendy’s senior vice president of product development. “The W continues our menu evolution, as we offer even more mouthwatering choices bursting with flavor that suit the tastes and budgets of consumers.”
Islands Fine Burgers & Drinks will debut its new Point Break Burger, topped with blue and Gruyère cheeses and bacon–onion relish. It will be available starting Nov. 28 at all 52 Islands restaurants in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. The burger is priced at around $10, depending on location.
Charley’s Grilled Subs, a 430-unit cheese steak chain based in Columbus, Ohio, has introduced its Supreme Pizza Steak Sandwich as a limited-time offer.
It is made with steak, grilled onions, mushrooms, and green peppers, plus pepperoni, provolone cheese, pizza sauce, and Italian seasoning.
“We’re excited to introduce the Supreme Pizza Steak Sandwich because we know pizza and cheese steaks are both big sellers throughout the country,” Charley’s research and development specialist Chung Choe said in a press release. “This sandwich is also a hearty meal for colder months ahead, and we know our loyal customers will love it.”
The sandwich is available through Jan. 8, 2012 and has an average price between $4.99 and $5.49.
Boston-based UFood, a better-for-you fast-casual chain, is testing a line of four naan sandwiches in its eight restaurants.
The items are made with a whole-grain version of the Indian flatbread and include:
Chipotle Chicken: grilled chicken breast with light jalapeño jack cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and light chipotle mayonnaise
Fresh Falafel: falafel, tomato and tamarind chutneys, cucumbers, yogurt, and fresh cilantro
Mighty Chicken: grilled chicken breast, organic greens, almonds, light mayonnaise, and light Caesar dressing
Fire-Roasted Turkey and Swiss: sliced turkey, light Swiss cheese, organic greens, tomatoes, cranberry chutney, and light mayonnaise
The sandwiches are priced between $5.99 and $6.99.
"This new line is on-trend and is exactly the type of food that our health-conscious, flavor-craving customers are seeking,” UFood chief executive George Naddaff said in a press release. “We will continue to bring innovation to our product line to respond to their tastes while maintaining our commitment to nutrition."
