“Still shuckin’ since 1967,” Captain Benny’s has been supplying Houston and Austin with some delicious seafood. A fun family spot with great prices and a Cajun twist, seafood lovers in those cities should consider themselves fortunate to have a place like “The Boat” at their disposal.
Oysters and shrimp come from the Gulf coast, and appetizers include boudin balls, crab fingers, shrimp boil, baked oysters in four varieties, and spicy fried alligator. Dinners include crab and shrimp-stuffed redfish, catfish, or tilapia, whole fried or broiled catfish; crawfish tails; and fried oysters. Platters and baskets of lots of deep fried goodness are available, as well as shrimp, oyster, catfish, crawfish, and chicken po’ boys. Seafood gumbo and shrimp or crawfish étouffée are specialties of the house, and don’t pass up the hush puppies and garlic toast on the side.
Great Cajun food is harder to prepare than it looks, and at Captain Benny’s they’re doing it right.
