The amount of candy coating I buy once fall begins in almost embarrassing. I honestly think that I spend the entire holiday season from October to January finding things to dip in white chocolate. Crackers, pretzels, Oreos, even potato chips – all fair game.

I have a dunking addiction, friends. And it’s pretty serious.

My family only makes matters worse because they love all of it. Never mind all the fancy layer cakes, homemade fudges, butterscotch dip cupcakes, and pies I lovingly bake them. Give them a bowl of peanut butter crackers dipped in white chocolate and they think I’m a culinary genius.

I don’t even know why I try. My talents are completely wasted on this bunch. My husband actually thinks I invented most of this stuff and can’t believe how genius I am.

I don’t have the heart to tell him that Midwestern housewives have been dipping things in waxy chocolate coating like it’s their job for decades now. It’s just what we do.

I make a big batch of Christmas Trash every December and my family eats themselves sick on it. And circus trash candy has been known to disappear at record speed. But I don’t have an actual recipe for my Christmas version – it’s just any odd mix of nuts, pretzels, dried fruits, and candies I might have on hand, coated in white chocolate.

Every time my husband eats it, he tells me that he doesn’t understand why I’m not famous yet. Bless his heart, I don’t think Julia Childs did much with almond bark.

Since my Christmas Trash is always so popular, I decided to whip up a batch of Halloween Trash – crunchy pretzels, salty peanuts, and candy corn, coated in white chocolate. The sweet/salty combo is completely addictive and the candy corn and peanuts compliment each other perfectly. They taste like a PayDay bar!

This batch makes a very large bowl-full, but I promise it will disappear quickly.


Candy Corn Trash Recipe



  • 5 cups small pretzel twists
  • 2 cups candy corn
  • 1 1/2 cups dry roasted salted peanuts
  • 10 ounces white chocolate melting wafers


  1. Line a large baking sheet with wax paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine pretzel twists, candy corn, and salted peanuts.
  3. Melt white chocolate according to package directions and pour over mixture. Stir until coated.
  4. Spread on prepared baking sheet until firm.
  5. Break into small pieces and serve.
