Bud Light Launches 'Platinum' Beer

Super Bowl Sunday is prime time for companies to unveil a new product. The Washington Post reports Anheuser-Busch InBev is launching a new beer, Bud Light Platinum, with 6 percent alcohol and catering to a more sophisticated, club crowd.

Platinum contains 137 calories, only eight calories shy of its sibling, Budweiser. With craft beer sales up, Platinum is targeting those who have shifted to drinking spirits.

The bottle itself is cobalt blue and the taste of the brew hints at grainy sweetness. Bottles hit shelves Jan. 30.

The allure of Platinum doesn't come cheap. In grand marketing fashion, Anheuser-Busch InBev plans to roll out two 30-second ads averaging around $3.5 million during the first half of the Super Bowl. Ah, the price of a cold beer.
