The Broadmoor Opens Re-Designed West Building
Since millionaire Spencer Penrose opened The Broadmoor in 1918, it has been the destination of presidents, statesmen, foreign dignitaries, and celebrities. Just three years shy of its 100th anniversary, the resort has completed its $100 million renovation and expansion project.
The newly redesigned Broadmoor West houses a new cherry wood lobby featuring stained glass skylights, marble floors, and detailed millwork; a reconfigured driveway and porte-cochere that have been transformed with Greek mythological sculptures and painted vaulted ceiling art, as well as a new three-story addition to the tower adding 31 guest rooms, including four suites. In addition to new lodging options, the tower also includes Ristorante Del Lago, an Adam Tihany-designed restaurant and Natural Epicurean, a new health-focused eatery.
The Ristorante del Lago at The Broadmoor is inspired by the classic villas of Lake Como and offers diners authentic Italian cuisine with a focus on regional specialties. The chefs spent four months in Italy researching recipes for the menu. For health enthusiasts, the West tower has also opened Natural Epicurean, featuring natural, healthy, and organic menu options and pressed-to-order juices.
Later this year, The Broadmoor will open Cloud Camp, a development 3,000 feet above the resort on top of Cheyenne Mountain including a lodge and 11 cabins. Guests can take a two-hour hike to the new complex, ride a mule, or travel in style... and four-wheel drive. Additionally, travelers can enjoy The Ranch at Emerald Valley, a 10-cabin luxury retreat eight miles west of The Broadmoor featuring fly-fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and meals provided by a private chef will open in spring.
With the addition of the new Broadmoor West, the resort houses a total of 779 rooms and suites. The Broadmoor encompasses 3,000 acres with three championship golf courses, an award-winning spa and fitness center, a nationally recognized tennis program, 26 retail boutiques, an on-site movie theater and bowling alley, and 19 restaurants, cafes, and lounges.
