Tips

  • cash only.. but they have 2 ATMs
  • Be extra nice to the cranky yet attractive staff for good service.
  • Favorite venue in DC. Fact!
  • If you're here for a concert than shut your stupid mouth while they're playing. Otherwise may the Gods of Zeus splash your face with cheap, rancid beer.
  • Ladies, use the bathroom downstairs (or wait forever to use the one upstairs)
  • Black Cat Black Cat. Little change for the hooooomeless
  • The Red Room bar is one of our favorite Happy Hour spots, with an assortment of craft-brews, a pool table, jukebox and pinball machine hang out enough and it will feel like an episode of Cheers!
  • Ear plugs are 50 cents a pair in the red room.
  • Every Saturday night, Black Cat screens an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer downstairs for free. They call it Hellmouth Happy Hour.
  • The Wag. Most Excellent.1st Saturday every month/backstage
  • If you ever see Punk Rock Karaoke on the schedule, ATTEND THAT EVENT! Not only is the event itself a blast, but all proceeds go toward progressive causes!
  • Black Cat, Black Cat! A little change for the homeless! Black Cat.
  • Forget the kids dancing in the boom boom room. Find a seat tucked back in the Red Room. The bar's well stocked, and they serve health food until 2 a.m. Better for that future hangover of yours.
  • make sure you attend at least one cryfest... (Smiths vs. The Cure) all night
  • If you spend too much time here, you'll probably dance with me. I am an excellent dancer.
  • this cash only dive bar, has a great punk sub culture feel, and has a very friendly hipster atmosphere. chill in the 'red room' and go crazy in the concert room. hipster haters beware
  • The best small music venue I've ever been to. Period.
  • Food for Thought has the cheapest and some of the tastiest vegan food in the city. A must.
  • If you're at a main stage and the bar's packed, get your drinks downstairs in the red room.
  • Take a break from the loud music and dancing by relaxing in the Red Room with fully stocked bar, pool, and pinball or nosh on vegetarian and vegan-friendly delights at the Food for Thought Caf.
