A Bit of Brooklyn Magic
There are back patios, and then there’s the magical little courtyard behind Maison Premiere.
On Williamsburg’s main drag, though a few blocks from the most congested bit, Maison Premiere is an oyster and absinthe bar with only little signage outside and dim lighting inside. They’ve got a full bar, but at least your first drink should be absinthe-based (when in Rome… ) and you’ll definitely want to indulge in oysters. The waiters are endlessly knowledgeable about them and can recommend a selection for every level of oyster eating, whether you have never ventured into bivalve territory or are an aficionado.
The space, inside and out, is cozy and welcoming with plenty of Brooklyn-y accents like vintage furniture, artfully rusted metalwork, and random old-fashioned portraits hanging on the walls. But it really is the courtyard that enhances the experience with a small set of stairs leading out to a lush, green terrace with small white iron tables and small strings of lights in the trees.
Head into Brooklyn early for their oyster happy hour every weekday from 4-7 p.m., the oysters are a dollar and the drinks are strong.
