Vanilla Ice Cream
I first heard of this surprisingly appealing concoction — sort of a root beer float for grownups — from my friend Belle Casares, née Holahan, a granddaughter of the Irish-American writer John O’Hara, who was in turn descended from the Anglo-Norman Franeys of County Laois. Langkasuy Ice Cream
"What's so special about this ice cream?" you may ask. Well, this ice cream flavor is something that you can only find in the Philippines. I'm sure that many of you haven't heard of it! It is called langkasuy, which is short for "langka" (jackfruit) and "kasuy" (cashew). Jackfruit is a popular tropical fruit in the Philippines, which, when fully ripe, has a delightfully sweet flavor. This ice cream captures the full flavor of this tropical fruit with the added crunchy texture and nutty flavor of cashews. I tell you, their flavors complement each other so well!

This cocktail was inspired by Frank’s penchant for a glass of something medicinal, combined with his love of ice cream, after a hard day’s graft. It’s the kind of cocktail even crime family patriarch Don Corleone couldn’t refuse.

Want a sweet treat to go with your wine pairings this summer? In honor of what would have been Robert Mondavi's 100th birthday, the winery has whipped up a lemon verbana ice cream that goes perfectly with all of your summer meals. The suggested Mondavi wine for it? The 2009 Robert Mondavi Woodbridge Moscato. The bright fruit character of the Woodbridge Moscato is complemented by the bright lemon flavor of this ice cream. This ice cream is not overly sweet, so it complements the sweetness in the wine rather than overpowering it.
