Reuben Dog
Soon after it was invented by Bernard Schimmel, the Reuben won the National Sandwich Idea Contest in 1956. Now, nearly 60 years later, the combination of corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing is still a deli favorite. It's definitely mine. Whenever I'm lucky enough to eat at a classic New York City deli for lunch, a Reuben is my go-to order — but I always swap out the corned beef for pastrami. As much as I love the sandwich, though, I've never once made it at home. The lengthy cooking methods for both corned beef and pastrami completely contradict my sandwich ideal: a quick, no-fuss lunch or an easy weeknight dinner. This recipe solves the problem. Changing the meat once again, I sub out pastrami for an all-beef, char-grilled hot dog, which I top with all the best parts of a Reuben: melted Swiss, hot sauerkraut, and tangy-sweet Russian dressing. Click here to see 8 Creative Hot Dog Recipes.

Jason Goldstein of Chop Happy created this recipe as an homage to his childhood memories of going to the bagel store with his dad in New York City. It's a fun and easy appetizer for any party and can even be made a day beforehand (just refrigerate the pan of assembled pigs in blankets and pop them in the oven 30 minutes before party time).

The bratwurst in this recipe gets two cooking treatments. First, it’s simmered in a fragrant braising liquid made of fresh orange and lemon juice and Blue Moon’s Sunshine Citrus Blonde beer, and then it’s finished on the grill to give it a nice, flavorful char.

Sure you could have a hotdog. Or you could go for the extra point and opt for a sausage sandwich instead. Sliced fresh onions and peppers are lightly grilled alongside spicy sausage for an all American snack that bites back.

Currywurst is a popular street food in Berlin, Germany; consisting primarily of bratwurst sausages that are dusted with curry powder and covered in curry ketchup and served with fries, mayonaisse, and more ketchup. You can substitute bratwurst sausages for the traditional pigs in a blanket mini-franks if you desire. This recipe has been adapted from the Perfect Pigs in a Blanket Recipe, and given a Berlin-style currywurst flavor. Photo Modified: Flickr/ punctuated/ CC 4.0

Chef Duran — of The Food Network's Ham on the Street and TLC's Ultimate Cake Off — developed  a fun grilled frank recipe that it puts a spin on run of the mill hotdogs. Chef Durans says "It’s such a simple recipe, but never fails to impress my guests.  Thread beef franks through skewers and then slice down the length of each frank, while rotating the skewer for a perfect spiral cut." Due to its simplicty and visual appeal, the grilled spiral franks recipe is easily one of the best grilled recipes.
