The "Luther" Donut Burger is one of the unhealthiest burgers to date, averaging at around 1,000 calories per burger. Although the origins of the donut burger are mostly speculative — its name is often attributed to R&B singer Luther Vandross — many restaurants have incorporated the trend into their menus. They’re classically made with two donuts (or one cut lengthwise) instead of buns, and comprised of a hamburger patty, cheese, and bacon. I am a serious donutholic—I will eat donuts any time, for any reason, and any kind; I do not discriminate. My love for donuts stems from two likely causes—one, because my Grandma Pat or my parents would frequently take us to the local donut shop at least once a week, and two, because my mom often bought those poppable donut holes at the grocery store and we’d shovel them into our mouths like they were going out of style. We never really bought chocolate donuts, so whenever I’d get one, it was always a special treat compared to my typical sugar-yeast or cake donut. There’s something so delightful about a fudgy chocolate cake donut, and they are the star in this recipe. Combined with chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream, and chocolate sauce—okay, more like quadruple chocolate—they’re a heavenly treat for any donut freak! Out of the Box Desserts: Simply Spectacular, Semi-Homemade Sweets by Hayley Parker. jam
The very best donuts are hot & fresh – making them yourself ensures you get them straight from the pan. What makes them even better is filling them with delicious jam! This is a recipe from my grandmother that uses premade dough for easy, fast and delicious donuts.Whenever I went to stay with my grandmother, we would make these fresh donuts together – it’s one of my favorite memories. Jams, especially more tart ones like Razzle Bazzle or In the Limelight, make great fillings because they counterbalance the wonderful fried dough!Recipe comes courtesy of Jamnation Jam creator Gillan Reynolds. Jelly-filled donuts have an interesting history. They are variously called Berliners by German and paczki by Poles. No one really knows where or how they originated. Although some trace it to a 1485 cookbook, Kuchenmeisterei (Mastery of the Kitchen), which gives a recipe consisting of jam sandwiched between two rounds of yeast dough bread and deep-fried in lard. Then, sometime later, someone got the idea of injecting jelly into deep-fried donuts. In the upper Midwest, jelly donuts are called "jam busters, and are extremely popular. If you're fan of any kind of donuts, these suckers are delicious.
