Best Food Finds During Austin City Limits

Where to indulge in the tastes of the city, while you’re indulging in great music

Sitting on the tarmac waiting to take off for Austin and knowing that in a matter of hours you’ll be listening to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, and Fleet Foxes, food might be low on the totem pole. But just because your mind is hyper-focused on all the joys of the Austin City Limits festival, doesn’t mean you should be allowed to forget about the stellar food and drink scene that the

city has to offer. So, when listening to Kanye West and Cee-Lo Green has sufficiently worked up your appetite, here are the top Austin spots to hit. (Photo courtesy of Flickr/whittlz)

SLEEP: In the bustle of South Congress lies a six-room enclave that surrounds you with zen-like architecture and minimalist-designed rooms. Not only stylish, the Kimber Modern is environmentally friendly, includes a delicious complimentary breakfast, and offers free Wi-Fi. Also off the SoCo strip, Hotel Saint Cecilia's historic house, stylish studios, and boho bungalows emanate rebellious rock 'n' roll character. Drawing inspiration from Warhol, Miró, and the Stones, this boutique Texan hotel has sensual, sultry décor and a leafy tranquil setting.

EAT: While you're canvassing the city, take advantage of Austin's infamous food truck scene. Don't pass up the opportunity to taste classic Texan barbecue at one of our favorite trailers, Franklin BBQ. The relatively new Barley Swine, an offshoot of the ever popular Odd Duck trailer, doesn't look like much from the outside, but the locally sourced small plates, beer selections, and cool atmosphere should not

be missed. Hankering for quality Mexican? Curra's Grill, an Austin institution, is your place. Make sure to give the avocado margarita a whirl. (Photo courtesy of Flickr/Poryorick)

DRINK: When (if?) you tire of bands like Ray LaMontagne and Fitz and the Tantrums, head to East Side Show Room, Austin's answer to inventive cocktails, live music, and a European café atmosphere. Get your tequila fix at La Condesa. This hip Mexican restaurant boasts more than 80 varieties of blue agave tequila.
