To call the West Village’s Beatrice Inn a restaurant would be a bit of an understatement. It’s more of a happening with tables, chairs, a bar, and a menu. Graydon Carter’s posh celebrity hangout has been going strong since 1924, with its long banquettes, roaring fireplace, and potted palms, has a swanky and stylish atmosphere, with a bar that you’ll wish was in your basement.

The Beatrice Inn menu isn’t listed on their website, but it’s “short and to-the-point,” as The New York Times’ Pete Wells put it in his one-star 2013 review. It’s divided into Bar Snacks, Small Plates, Large Plates, and Sides, with snacks including fried dates with smoked wild boar rillettes and a Scotch egg with housemade lamb sausage and duck egg. Small plates include scallop and uni crudo, steak tartare, oxtail marmalade on toast, and chicken liver pâté. Large plates include a 45-day dry-aged burger, pan-roasted chicken, grilled skirt steak, and milk-braised pork shoulder, and sides include herbed truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, and duck fat fingerling potatoes.

Beatrice Inn is a scene, so be prepared for a meal where you’ll see and be seen. If you’re looking to enjoy a stunning meal in quiet reverence, go elsewhere, but if you’re looking to show off your Jimmy Choos while you chew, you’ll have come to the right place.
