Daylight savings time. Man, what a crock. Some say DLST started to provide more daylight for the farmers. But now three quarters of Americans live in cities. Others blame it on the Germans in WWI? Well folks; I don’t know if you’re aware, but WWI has passed. So what is it now, ISIS, the Taliban?
Whatever the reason, last week, after months of extra evening light, DLST ended, you were forced to change all of your clocks yet again, and now, even though your house clocks may be correct, you’re internal clock is completely effed. Well, it’s time to cheer up my dreary dudes. Start looking at the bright side of DLST and head to the new hot spot, Bar Liquorice. Because here, much like another place you like to cozy up in, the party begins once the lights go down.
Tom Looney (previously of Helen’s Garden Restaurant), along with Jeff Cahill and Ed Scherer, recently opened the doors to this new drinking cavern. And these Baltimore bar aficionados have developed quite the equation— combining great atmosphere, amazing drink and delicious food – to make you feel like yourself again.
Bar Liquorice is not only the perfect escape from the early eves but also a great hub to recalibrate your system. With beautiful big chandeliers hovering over the bar, the cool big city feel will lighten your spirits while the comfortable atmosphere and welcoming staff will take the chill out of any winter evening.
With the second part of the equation—two parts drink (or more if you’d like; no judgment here)—you will be on your way to feeling like a new man. Try a craft cocktail such as the Manhattan LUX, or a local draft to help ease your body and mind. If you’re looking to calm your nerves and ease your soul, select from a list of incredible wines.
But it is not all about the grog. With forty years of experience in the food industry, Looney offers up incomparable dishes such as the Banh Mi sandwich with pulled pork, pate, Asian slaw and sriracha aioli on baguette; and salads such as the Italian, served with shaved fennel, grapefruit, apple, pomegranate coulis and shaved pecorino. For something a bit smaller yet completely filling, try the charcuterie board with pate, sausage, cured meats, dijon, apple, cornichon and baguette.
So, head over to Bar Liquorice to fully appreciate the benefits of this seasons premature nightfall.
