Harrisburg, PA (RestaurantNews.com) Arooga’s and the Hershey Bears know how to throw a party. They also know how to raise money for a great cause.
Six of Arooga’s restaurants, in partnership with the Hershey Bears, teamed up last Wednesday night in support of “Running For Rachel,” raising $8522 for the charity, besting last year’s mark by more than $2500 and bringing the 4-year total to more than $21,000.
“We are thrilled that Arooga’s hosted us for the Running for Rachel fundraiser. Along with the amazing staff, the Hershey Bears and the incredibly generous patrons, we raised more than $8,500 for cancer research this year and $20,000 plus in the past four years,” said charity spokesperson Erin Stone, sister of the charity’s namesake, Rachel Guss, a beloved community member and college student who passed away in November 2011 from duodenal cancer, a rare form of the disease which is extremely difficult to treat.
Since then, family and friends have continued on a mission to raise awareness and funds for gastrointestinal cancer research. On Sunday, April 24, 2016 runners and walkers are invited to join at City Island in Harrisburg to continue Rachel’s fight against cancer and honor her memory at the annual Running for Rachel 5K Run/Walk by registering here: http://runningforrachel.myevent.com/3/events.htm.
“It is a privilege and an honor to partner with Arooga’s to support Running For Rachel,” said Hershey Bears President and General Manager Doug Yingst. “Our players enjoy the opportunity to meet their fans and assist this local charity.”
For the fourth year in a row, Arooga’s decided to get a jump on the event by raising funds in memory of Rachel, who was known by several Arooga’s team members.
“This is a charity close to the hearts of the Arooga’s family. As we knew they would, our local communities really came through again in coming out to show their support of the Guss family and their cause, and we are so happy that we can say that we exceeded last year’s funds raised by over $2500,” said Arooga’s co-founder and President Gary Huether, Jr. “ This is truly a testament to the kindness and generosity of the people of Central Pennsylvania, and we are thrilled to have partnered with the Hershey Bears again this year for another successful fundraiser for Running for Rachel.”
