Tips

  • The courtyard here was once surrounded on 3 sides by galleries, 1 of which survives. In medieval London such places became informal theatres, and inspired early theatres like The Globe.
  • Don't forget to have a glance at Charles Dickens life insurance kept here!
  • Amazing pub full of history, good beers and above average food. Wish they stayed open later on a Saturday. Run by the national trust so you can convince yourself every pint is a donation!
  • Beautifully preserved 16th-c coaching inn, with lots of tables in bustling courtyard to take in the galleried exterior.
  • London's best-known secret? Set back from the main road, this is a gorgeous historic pub. Best visited during the day when it's quieter.
  • Nice pub. But expensive. 4.90 for a pint then they have the audacity to not take any card below 10.
  • Nice courtyard for outdoor drinking. Always incredibly busy though, and after about 6:30pm, it's difficult to find a table outside.
  • Amazing historic pub in its own courtyard, the oldest standing coach house in London. 3 separate bars, restaurant and lots of outside seating.
  • Large outdoor area and sometimes a Saturday hog roast
  • Beautiful 17th Century pub. Big outdoor seating area. Marvel at how the building opposite got planning permission.
  • Good atmosfere . Great place to have fun and have good time with friends.
  • Great pub, lots of history and a good selection of beers. Swap the hustle and bustle of the city for the great atmosphere and nice courtyard.
  • Lovely Sunday roast. Yummy.
  • Nice pub, ok beer but avoid the food.
  • hidden off Borough High Street, this ancient coaching inn still retains its original character and has loads of outside seating in the summer. Be prepared to share a table!
  • 30 January: Passengers once stayed here before setting off by stagecoach from ancient Watling Street for Canterbury: either as pilgrims, or heading for the sea ports beyond, bound for the continent.
  • Try the stove fires. They're nice.
  • Surely everyone knows about the George? To be in with a chance of it not being rammed, avoid straight after work or weekends when Borough Market's open.
  • Nice food and friendly staff.
  • The bangers and mash was pretty bland and boring. The Inn Pils is nice though...
