9 Movie Theaters Serving Gourmet Eats Slideshow

Cinebarre (Many Locations)

Cinebarre has locations in Asheville, N.C.; Denver; Charleston, S.C.; Salem, Ore., and Seattle offering in-theater waiter service and special nights, like Kids Eat Free Mondays, $2 domestic beer College Nights, and Breakfast Club brunch menus during Sunday matinées. Menu items include a whole range of comfort foods, clever sweets, pizzas, burgers, salads, and brunch items all named after movies or characters.

iPic Theatre: Pasadena, Calif.

The iPic Theatre in Old Town Pasadena is one of the most luxe theaters to serve food and drink to its loyal movie-loving fans. They have fantastically comfortable seats and waiters that serve all kinds of meals and drinks in the theater, like Chinois chicken salad rolls, homemade mozzarella sticks, sweet potato fries, and blackened mahimahi sliders washed down with seasonal, hand-crafted cocktails.

Everymum Cinema: London

Two locations (Belsize Park and Hampstead) of the London chain Everymum Cinemas offer waiter service in-theater, serving snacks and dishes with wine, beer, and cocktails, to moviegoers sitting in stylish reclining sofas. Considering how popular those locations have become (hummus, mojitos, retro movie candies, and the like can do that), we're sure they'll expand the service.

Living Room Theaters: Portland, Ore.

Portland's Living Room Theaters aim to be just that — as comfortable as a living room, though better stocked with food, drink, and huge movie screens. From fresh market salads to seasonal soups and from artichoke dips to a cheese board, it's easier to choose which movie to see than it is to decide on a meal. And their wine list is an eclectic mix of Spanish, Californian, Chilean, and local wines.

Nitehawk Cinema: Brooklyn, N.Y.

Nitehawk Cinema takes movie-inspired meals to another level with their pairings, and takes movie-theater food to the next level with local and lauded chef Saul Bolton at the helm. Their movie-themed menus, like a Dagwood sandwich and their Beauty Spot cocktail for The Artist, can be mixed up, ordered to the letter, or forgotten completely in favor of their full food and drink menu, which includes items like homemade pickles, croquettes, house-blend burger, and homemade chocolate bars.

Electric Cinema: London

One of the more famous movie-and-dinner venues, the Electric Cinema is a London mainstay. They've upgraded classic cinema snacks to offer marbled chocolate almonds and retro movie candies and they serve a short list of menu items from their brasserie next door, including pork belly with braised cabbage, chicken tikka, and a caramelized onion and mushroom tart, washed down with a long wine and drinks list. The oversized leather love seats are an added bonus.

Star Cinema Grill: Texas

With three Texas locations, the Star Cinema Grill offers first-run features as well as a full menu of movie-themed meals served while you're watching. Think Honey I Shrunk the Sandwiches (sliders like chipotle barbecue and pulled pork), Lord of the Onion Rings, and plenty of regularly named and delicious eats from ice cream floats to spinach artichoke dip.

Cinébistro (Many Locations)

Seasonal menus, special kids menus, and movie-inspired drinks are served at all of the seven Cinébistro locations — Atlanta; Miami; Richmond, Va.; Vail, Co.; two in Tampa, Fla.; and Hampton, Va. Think yellowtail ceviche, heirloom tomato salads, grilled chicken BLTs, and a trio of crème brûlées, alongside a wine list and a short menu of classic cinema snacks like Junior Mints and popcorn.

Central Cinema: Seattle

In true laid-back Seattle style, Central Cinema is all about waiter service, comfy sofas, pizzas, craft brews, and gourmet buttered popcorn (with board games ready for after the show). Their menu has all the comforting eats you'd want — macaroni and cheese, stuffed zucchini, and a range of panini and pizzas. But we're impressed by the custom popcorn toppings on offer, including garlic powder, curry powder, Brewer's Yeast, butter, or cinnamon sugar. They show old films, cult classics, and second-run shows.
