Washington, D.C., is home to a constantly changing and trendsetting restaurant scene. Filled with cultural diversity, the city is home to chefs trying new dishes and concepts, as well as older establishments that have committed followings. In addition to the buzz of trendy new foods, D.C. is also home to some iconic dishes and restaurants that have stood the test of time and continue to keep their customers wanting more.
Some of these places have been established for more than 50 years, like Ben’s Chili Bowl, a classic D.C. eatery made famous by celebrities like Bill Cosby. Other restaurants, like Amsterdam Falafelshop, are relatively new (as compared to 50 years, at least), but their food is so desired it creates long lines all day and night. Other chefs work to create fun versions of simple favorites, like the popcorn (which changes daily) at Founding Farmers.
Some of these places may not be fancy or creative, but no matter the style, these dishes regularly create long lines of eager guests excited to get their hands on some of D.C.’s most popular bites. Curious to see more? Check out the slideshow for five popular dishes in the D.C. area!
