2015 Corvette Z06 Is Chevrolet's Most Powerful And Technologically Advanced Car Yet
Last week Chevrolet announced that their 2015 Corvette Z06 is getting a suggested retail price tag of $78,995, while the convertible version will retail for $83,995—pretty fair considering Chevrolet is hailing the Z06 as the "most powerful and technologically advanced model in the iconic car's 62-year history." But in true supercar fashion, the prices don't just end there. You can always opt for some pretty hefty performance enhancements, like the $2,995 Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package that gives true aerodynamic downforce for stability and super high speeds by adding a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels, and a bigger rear spoiler.
The Z06 boasts a stronger aluminum frame than the rest of the 2015 lineup, with a supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine that has been rated at 650hp and 650lb-ft of torque, and features many of the same components found on the Stingray—like direct injection and Active Fuel Management.
"The 2015 Corvette Z06's performance and technical capabilities place it in the elite fraternity of supercars," says Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager. "Very few cars in the world deliver 650 horsepower, true aerodynamic downforce, carbon fiber and performance technologies such as Magnetic Ride Control, Performance Traction Management and an electronic limited slip differential—and none gives the driver a transmission choice or the choice of a coupe with a removable roof panel or a full-power-top convertible."
Buyers can also go with the Z07 Performance Package for an extra $7,995, which adds "Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that improve braking performance and contribute to better handling through reduced unsprung weight." This option essentially adds on adjustable front and rear aerodynamic components to what's offered through the Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package, as well as Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tired for better handling. According to Charles, this is the one you need if you want your Corvette Z06 to be track-capable, but also suitable for everyday driving.
The Z06 models are offered in various trims with a variety of features that customers can customize how they wish, including:
- Premium Package with leather-wrapped interior
- Aero-enhancing carbon fiber ground effects package
- Performance Data Recorder and navigation
- Competition sport seats offered in leather or sueded microfiber
- Carbon fiber interior trim and carbon fiber convertible tonneau cover inserts
- Visible carbon fiber roof panel (coupe)
- Tintcoat exterior colors, several available wheel finishes and several available brake caliper colors
