14 Celebrity Chefs On Vine
Watch celebrity chefs cook — in six seconds. Vine, a mobile app that was recently acquired by Twitter, lets users record and share short, looping videos. Since its January 2013 launch, the iPhone- and Android-friendly app has attracted more than 13 million users, chefs included.
Renowned chefs such as Mario Batali and Wolfgang Puck give us a glimpse of their food adventures through the app. You can follow as them as they cook for an event, enjoy a family dinner, eat at restaurants, and travel to different countries.
Expect, however, a healthy portion of random or eyebrow-raising posts. You'll find José Andrés attending a Taylor Swift concert, Alton Brown pretending to be choked by a tie, and Graham Elliot making hilarious faces at a dog on the airplane. There are also chefs, such as Jamie Oliver, Anthony Bourdain, and Gordon Ramsay, who are involved but not frequent updaters.
As time passes, perhaps more celebrity chefs will join Vine and post more of their food videos. (Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray, and Bobby Flay, we're looking at you.) Maybe they'll use the video feature on Instagram instead. Short updates, whether it's in video form or in Twitter form, has its appeal. Chefs can film their fast-paced lives both in and out of the kitchen without breaking a sweat, and fans can stay updated on the latest culinary news.
Before you continue, let this be a warning not to stare at the six-second videos when you're hungry: they don't stop replaying.
1) Andrew Zimmern
Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods star brings us along on his culinary travels. Watch him cook pasta with butter, chile, bottarga, and lemon, visit a braunschweiger factory, or eat the Southeast Asian balut, a boiled developing duck embryo.
2) Tyler Florence
Chef Florence, the host of Food Network's Tyler's Ultimate, shows us his culinary and not-so-culinary adventures. There's a video of a veal chop dish, a pig roast, a potato factory, and a night on the dance floor.
3) José Andrés
Chef José Andrés, the ThinkFoodGroup owner and Made in Spain star, shows us his food travels in Haiti, Puerto Rico, Cambodia, Spain, China, Singapore, and more. He also cooks red shrimp pomodoro and vegetable risotto for dinner.
4) Jamie Oliver
Chef Jamie Oliver, the man behind the Emmy Award-winning Jamie's Food Revolution, takes a relaxing break with a Don Tommaso cocktail. Oliver hasn't updated since that post, but it seems like many followers want to see more of his food revolution.
5) Bartolo "Buddy" Valastro, Jr. (Carlos' Bakery)
Buddy from Cake Boss shows us the art of cake decorating. You'll see a gourd that looks real, but is actually sculpted with fondant. It also may be tempting to go to his Hoboken, N.J. bakery just for a bite of chocolate biscotti and raspberry rugelach.
6) Wolfgang Puck
The culinary heavyweight and TV personality gives us a look into his restaurants. At his eateries, he hosts a chef's cooking challenge, prepares a summer crab and corn salad, takes mouthwatering pictures of plated courses, and shows us how to make a Margherita pizza.
7) Giada de Laurentiis
This Food Network star and cookbook author captures some of her culinary adventures. Look for behind the scenes shots from Giada at Home, the TODAY show, and Conan O'Brien's show. Other posts include her visit to the Jersey Shore, a dessert-filled meal with her kids at Porter House New York, and a family dinner to celebrate Aunt Raffy's birthday.
8) Graham Elliot
The chef and MasterChef judge shows us how it's done, with both serious food videos and amusing posts. Watch chefs assemble dishes with tweezers at a restaurant or watch him do a twirl at a tourist spot in Italy.
9) Gordon Ramsay
As the owner of a restaurant empire and the star of food shows such as Kitchen Nightmares, Hell's Kitchen, MasterChef, and more it might not be surprising that Gordon Ramsay is too busy to regularly update his Vine account. What we do see, however, is his video of Graham Elliot making dramatic poses at a Las Vegas food event.
10) Alton Brown
The Good Eats and Iron Chef America food expert films a rabbit roasting over a fire... and also films himself being sprayed with foam and doused with a water hose.
11) Curtis Stone
The Top Chef Masters and Around the World in 80 Plates host posted a video of him grilling chicken. We'd love to see more posts, especially if he does a Vine version of his food blog.
12) Anthony Bourdain
Anthony Bourdain's lone video shows chef Eric Ripert walking off a stage in an auditorium. Let's hope that he's not walking away from Vine just yet. The Parts Unknown host could give us behind-the-scenes videos during his travels.
13) Mario Batali
Chef Batali, who owns restaurants such as Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca and the Italian marketplace Eataly, appeared in TV shows like The Chew, Ciao America, Molto Mario, Iron Chef America, and more. Take a look at what goes on at his food-filled home, and watch him plate caviar for Father's Day, film José Andrés scattering butter on morels, or film his son's cooking.
14) Adam Richman
The Man v. Food television host might be finished with food challenges, but his food adventures did not stop. His videos range from lobster meals in New England to his updates on his upcoming NBC Food Fighters show.
