Yes, of course, José Andrés understands the food of his native Spain, probably better than anyone in America — but he also understands food, period, so it's not surprising that when he undertook to create a restaurant specializing in the cuisines of the Eastern Mediterranean, and specifically of Turkey, Greece, and Lebanon, he'd figure it out pretty quickly, and pretty well. In Zaytinya's airy, blue-haloed white-walled dining room, tables are crowded with hummus, taramosalata, and tabouleh, Turkish flatbreads and stuffed grape leaves, lamb in myriad forms, octopus Santorini style, grilled veal breast, grilled chicken skewers with sumac and onions amongst a whole anthology of savory delights.

A mezzanine dining area puts you above the crowds, but sometimes its more fun to mix it up below, particularly at the long communal table.

This place is a party. Tapas style servings are great for groups of 3-4. The food is dynamite, and almost healthy. Every dish here is a gem.

It's hard to go wrong with the ever-changing menu. The buzzy restaurant has delicious brussels sprouts, octopus small plates, and a number of fun festivals throughout the year. [Eater 38 member]

The Patates Tiganites Me Yaourti (french fries with Greek yogurt and caper salt) are so delicious, you might sheepishly order seconds. Yum.

Zaytinya is Mediterranean mezze at its best, drawing from Greek, Lebanese and Turkish influences. The floor-to-ceiling windows make it a pretty scene, too. [Eater 38 Member]
