Is This The World's Strongest Beer?

We thought that the Samuel Adams Utopias brew was strong enough, at 29 percent ABV, but now, a Scottish brewery is saying they have the world's strongest beer — clocking in at a whopping 65 percent ABV.

The Huffington Post reports on the (appropriately named) Brewmeister Armageddon beer, made from 100 percent Scottish spring water, crystal malt, wheat, and flaked oaks. The reason for the super high ABV is the freeze fermenting process, which cools the beer to a freezing temperature. That way, when the ice is removed from the beer (as the liquor doesn't freeze), all that's left is a super strong beer. The brewers say that the beer has a "viscuous quality" because of the freeze fermentation.

Much like the Utopias brew, the brewmasters behind it advise to drink it like a whiskey. Said Lewis Shand, founder and fellow director of Brewmeister, to the Donside Piper and Herald: "The phrase 'delivers a punch' doesn't quite cut it — delivers a supersonic charged explosion is probably more appropriate!" Though we haven't tasted it (it will debut at the Inverness Beer Festival on Nov. 3), we can bet that's a safe description of the beer.
