Woman Gives Birth In Subway Restroom

Of all the bizarre places that a child has been born, this must be one of the strangest: The Associated Press is reporting that a woman in labor burst into a Subway sandwich shop in Minden, Nev., about 40 miles outside Reno, and delivered a baby boy with the help of one of the shop's employees.

No customers were in the restaurant at the time (because it happened at 9:30 a.m.), but the shop was open and the employee, Flora Vargas, was there with her manager. Vargas helped her to the bathroom and laid down sandwich wrappers and trash bags, and shortly thereafter the paramedics arrived.

"The head of the baby was already out when she went to the floor," Vargas told the Associated Press. "The baby came out really, really fast. Fortunately, the emergency service people got here really fast."

The 21 year-old woman, whose name wasn't released, was with her sister at the time, and paramedics transported her and the baby to a local hospital. Both mother and baby are healthy and in good shape, a hospital spokesman said.
