What Are Your College's Eating Preferences?

How are college students eating these days, and who's downing the most coffee? GrubHub, an online food ordering company, analyzed college eating trends through student order data from over 350 college campuses, and the results may (or may not) be surprising.

The site ranked the colleges in fourteen categories, and some of the results are intriguing. For example, the home to the earliest risers, or those who order food from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., is Columbia University. They also happen to rank second on most caffeinated, with Pratt Institute as the front-runner. The early risers are three times more likely to get a coffee boost throughout the day.

Other results show that the top meat eaters are University of NC-Greensboro students, and the most meatless orders come from Yale University students. Georgetown students turned out to be the most calorie-conscious when ordering food, and American University students order the most dessert. In addition, the biggest spenders on GrubHub orders turn out to be MIT students, but Virginia Tech University students give the best tips.

GrubHub also compared college student eating habits with the average GrubHub customer, and found that college students are 87% more likely to order late at night, 28% less likely to order "healthier" meals, 16% less likely to be omit or substitute order ingredients, and 67% less likely to order early breakfasts. College students also order 186% more mozzarella sticks than the average diner, which doesn't come as much of a surprise.
