Weekly Opening Report: August 18, 2013

Every week, we take a look at some of the restaurants that have opened or will soon open across the country. Here's this week's roundup:

New York, NY
Rizzo's Fine Pizza: The Astoria pizzeria opened a new location in 17 Clinton St. on the Lower East Side, according to DNA Info. Rizzo's, which has been around for over fifty years, serves specialty pies such as "Golosa" or Mafiosa" along with their square pizza slices.

Bromberg Bros. Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken: The creators of Blue Ribbon Restaurants opened a fried chicken restaurant in East Village, according to a release, bringing not only their popular fried chicken, but also other items like griddled chicken burger, banana-salted caramel ice cream, and sides like homemade pickled peppers.

Pranzo: The pizza joint on 34 Water Street reopened after repairing the flooding damages after Hurricane Sandy struck, DNA Info reported.

Barley & Grain: Bruce Kravetz, the owner of his Upper West Side wine bar, The Tangled Vine, opened another bar across the street called Barley & Grain, according to DNA Info. The bar will serve whiskeys, scotches, microbrews, and dishes such as smoked hanger steak and the B&G burger, which has a grass-fed Wagyu beef patty and cheddar cheese between a pretzel bun.

Juni: The 50-seat restaurant, located in Manhattan's Hotel Chandler, will open on August 19th, according to a release. The restaurant will have a seasonally changing menu, in-house baked bread, proprietary coffee made by Toby's Estate Coffee, and their special tea blend made by Tealeaves. Look for dishes such as Satur Farms toy box tomatoes with bush basil, tomato geleé, and blue basil flowers, or Frog Hollow peach tartare with pistachio dust.

Mayhem & Stout: The artisan sandwich shop is now open in Murray Hill, and will launch their delivery service on August 19th, according to a release. The sandwich shop features items such as braised pork shoulder with dragon sauce and spicy slaw, or short rib with horseradish crème and onion confit. The sandwiches are made with bread from Brooklyn's Caputo Bakery.

Venturo Osteria & Wine Bar: The Italian restaurant is now open in Queens' Sunnyside, according to a release. They have dishes such as black kale salad with anchovy-garlic vinaigrette, and pansotti with red beet puree and mascarpone drizzled with lemon-butter sauce. Their "Community Dinners" are multi-course options for groups of three to four diners.

Dogmatic: The hot dog, burgers, non-fried fries, and handmade sodas place is moving from Union Square to 120 MacDougal Street in West Village, according to a release. The restaurant will open in September, according to a release.

SIMIT + SMITH: The Mediterranean fast casual restaurant is now open on 111 Worth Street, with another location on 100 William Street in the works for October, according to a release. They serve simit, a traditional breakfast and snack bread, as sandwiches or with house made dips. Grab some espresso, Turkish tea, Turkish soda, ayran (a yogurt drink), or house made lemonades along with your meal.

Yonkers, NY
Frannie's Goodie Shop: The store opened its second location in Westchester's Ridge Hill, according to a release. The location serves soft-serve ice cream, gelato, shakes, coffee, crepes, candy, and frozen yogurt.

San Francisco, CA
Fog City: The diner, which opened in 1985 and is undergoing a renovations and a menu revamp, will open again mid-September, according to a release. Expect wood-fired grilled dishes, like their signature burger, wood oven chicken, wood-grilled lamb skewers, and more.

SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza: The pizza restaurant, named as one of the "Rest of the 101 Best Restaurants" by The Daily Meal, is set to open five more locations in San Mateo County within the next seven years, and may open five more in Santa Clara County, according to a release.

Newport Beach, CA
Lark Creek Newport Beach: Their restaurant, which opened on August 5th, partnered with SPE Certified, a restaurant certification and consulting program, to bring seasonal, nutritious dishes to their menu, according to a release.

Morristown, NJ
The Taco Truck: The food truck will open a restaurant in Morristown on Wednesday, August 21st, bringing their signature pescado taco, Barbacoa de Costilla toasted sandwiches, and sides such as their rice and beans. This will be their flagship location, according to a release.

Italy
Orsone: Joe and Lidia Bastianich opened the tavern, restaurant, and bed and breakfast in their winery in Cividale del Friuli, according to a release. Expect traditional American dishes as well as reinterpreted Italian cuisine, including regional dishes.

Charlotte, NC
BAKU: The Japanese Robata, bar, and sushi restaurant will open in late August, according to a release, serving food in an open kitchen on the Robata and yakitori grills. The restaurant will feature local produce and products from local Carolina growers.

Las Vegas, NV
Tom Colicchio's Heritage Steak: Chef Colicchio is opening his new restaurant at Las Vegas' Mirage on August 18th, according to Eater. The restaurant will feature meats cooked with wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills.
