Portland’s first Farmhouse brewery — Upright Brewing turns 6 years old and is celebrating this Sunday March 29th at the brewery and tasting room from 1-6pm. This makes for an epic weekend of saisons and wild ales in Portland as The Commons Brewery opens in their new space and the Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival runs through the weekend. As in new annual tradition, Upright Brewing is releasing their Anniversary Saison in bottles and a keg will be tapped Sunday.
Brewery Description of the 2015 Anniversary Ale:
This brew harkens back to our first anniversary beer, a cascade hopped saison aged in gin barrels with apricot. That was our first experience using gin barrels, and we’ve grown to love the botanical nuance and oil rich mouthfeel they lend. This batch uses the same barrels as last year – three wine casks and one gin cask. The nose opens with a bit of all the elements – spirit, herbs & spices, hops, apricot, brettanomyces, and wheat. Strong pepper notes show in the flavor, and the beer has a historic dry and bitter profile. The four cask blend has about 10% fresh beer (the base for the 2016 batch) added, which brightens the profile and will allow for an interesting bottle conditioning for well over a year.
