Located in Southern Thailand along the coast of the Andaman Sea in Krabi, Phulay Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve invites guests to connect to authentic Thai cuisine and experience a greater level of well-being with the launch of the new Raw Thai Retreat. Beginning this summer, guests have the opportunity to take home a one-of-a-kind souvenir, a newly learned skill along with a live video cooking tutorial with Phulay Bay’s Chef and Mixologist, following a four-night, three-day hands-on raw Thai cooking and cocktail retreat.
Raw Thai Retreat guests are welcomed with Miang Kum, a traditional Thai “savory bite” consisting of fresh green betel leaves topped with a sweet chutney and a variety of flavorful raw bites: crunchy roasted peanuts, salty dried shrimp, hot chilies, refreshing ginger, pungent shallots, sweet coconut and piquant lime, often customary to accompany pre-dinner cocktails.
On the first day, Phulay Bay’s Executive Chef escorts guests to a morning visit and tour of Krabi’s local market to select and learn about the various spices, fruits and vegetables to be used in the classes, such as green mangos for Yum Mamuang, a traditional raw salad. Guests also lend their hand at mixology and are introduced to Bartanicals, the art of creating cocktails utilizing fresh raw herbs and ingredients sourced directly from the Chomtawan Sunset Bar’s on-site herb garden. What’s more, the daily Thai spice vitamin shots add an additional boost to the well-being bliss, complete with an initial tutorial on the health benefits of each spice to tailor to individual preferences and needs.
Phulay Bay’s Raw Thai Retreat continues once the guests have returned home, taking a one-of-a-kind souvenir back with them. With a privately hosted three-hour live video session, the Chef and Mixologist will ensure the at-home raw Thai experience is reflective of their visit to Phulay Bay. With traditional and Southern Thai influences found in Krabi, the live Skype session offers an opportunity for guests to bring the secrets and the long history of raw food back home with them - a memorable souvenir that bridges the gap between the hidden, unspoiled communities and the ultra-connected world of today; not to mention impress their next dinner guest.
