Italian Grocery Store Modifies Shopping Carts So Dogs Can Ride Them

Dog owners can shop in ease at one Italian grocery store, knowing their dogs are perfectly safe while the weekly shopping is being done.

At Unes, the market located in the city of Liano, the shopping carts have been adapted to seat small dogs, with a solid bottom partition that allows dogs to sit or stand in the front of the cart.

"The owners of small dogs can now avoid having to leave them outside, giving them peace of mind to take all the time they need to make their purchases," store owner Gianfranco Galantini told La Repubblica, an Italian newspaper.

The seating area from each cart is removed and cleaned after each visit and so far, the worst thing that's happened is that one dog barked when he was put in the cart, Galantini said.

The dog-friendly trolleys are already such a hit in Liano that Unes, a chain grocery, is considering introducing them to other branches.
