Michael Tilson Thomas, Artistic Director of Miami’s New World Symphony, also directs the San Francisco Symphony (since 1995). November brings a special performance by the legendary symphony institution featuring the Avery Fisher Prize-winning violinist, Gil Shaham. The world famous American violinist will bring his precision and energy to the Arsht Center for a program including such works as Liszt’s “Mephisto Waltz No. 1” and Samuel Carl Adam’s “Drift and Providence.” The San Francisco Symphony is the recipient of a number of awards including 11 Grammy Awards and the Grand Prix du Disque.

The event takes place at the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center in South Beach, which is transformed into a high-energy nightlife type of venue specifically for the event. Pulsing lights and video projections set the scene for beautiful performances by the New World Symphony accompanied by a DJ spinning electronic music sounds. The featured music includes both classical and contemporary works, making it an exciting event for a varied audience of ages and musical tastes.

The South Florida Symphony presents “Expressive Virtuosity” at the Amaturo Theater. The evening performance comes as the second of three exclusive Florida performances over the course of just a few days. The first show is in Key West and the last is scheduled for Delray Beach. The night begins with a special opening by art historian and music connoisseur, Ian Fraser, with enlightening and entertaining background stories about the music and musicians. The music of Tchaikovsky and Verdi will make the evening one to remember as well as famed cellist Zuill Bailey’s spectacular presentation of Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante for Cello & Orchestra.

The Miami International Piano Festival presents David Kadouch for an intimate experience in Aventura following great success performing in Miami two years earlier. The young and talented French pianist is the winner of several awards including “Young Artist of the Year” (International Classical Music Award) and “Artist Breakthrough of the Year” (by the French Critics) in 2011. This event is the first in the series “Four Classical Sundays at Five” spanning through April. The performance will be followed by a catered reception.

This afternoon event is part of the “lucky” thirteenth season for Chameleon Chamber Music. It’s the second of five Sunday performances at the venue scheduled through the month of April. The music of Schubert, Strauss and Sibelius make for the perfect way to end a weekend and to unwind before the workweek. The music will be performed by the Chameleon String Trio – violinists Misha Vitenson and Michael Klotz along with cellist Iris van Eck.
