Taco Bell Gives Whole Town Free Tacos

Some feuds can only be settled with blood or money, but in other cases a taco will do nicely. That's the case for a town in Alaska, where residents will soon receive 10,000 free tacos from Taco Bell.

The taco airlift is a big deal for the town of Bethel, Ala., which has just 6,200 people and no fast-food restaurants besides a Subway. The nearest is 400 miles away in Anchorage. But Bethel's residents do watch TV, and are constantly taunted by ads for the quick-service chains the rest of us take for granted.

According to The Huffington Post, the issue began with a feud between two Bethel residents. One attempted to prank the other by covering the town in fliers that announced the opening of a Taco Bell in town, and included a phone number for people to call and inquire about job opportunities. The phone number belonged to the other feud participant.

But for the rest of Bethel, the news of an incipient Taco Bell made them giddy with excitement, which soon turned to rage when they discovered the Taco Bell was a hoax.

Everything will be OK in the end, though, because Taco Bell — never one to miss a PR opportunity — heard about the small-town drama and has decided to intervene by making free tacos for everybody in town.

The chain will fly ingredients from Anchorage, and says there will be enough to make 10,000 tacos. That includes 900 pounds of beef, 300 pounds of lettuce,150 pounds of cheese, 500 pounds of sour cream, and 300 pounds of tomatoes.
