Contrary to what your girlfriend would have you believe, manicures, doing her laundry and fiscal responsibility are not actually aphrodisiacs. Oysters, on the other hand, have been scientifically proven to put you in the mood, making the brand new Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co. your go-to destination, whether you're looking for love or just some fantastic shellfish.

Opened last week in Brooklyn, this raw bar and market is just steps from McCarren Park but feels closer to the coast, thanks to the bright and open interior's distinctly nautical bent. Dominated by wall-to-wall white tiles, the space is accented by seaworthy details like nautical cleat bar hooks, gold-and-silver-gilded sea shells, porthole bathroom mirrors, deck-like wood ceiling planks, and maritime maps adorning the walls.

As for the aforementioned oysters, one just has to grab a seat at the 11-seat white marble bar to watch bivalves shucked in real time. Just fill out your paper order – delivered on a vintage oyster tray – and you'll soon find yourself with a platter of Littlenecks, Kumamotos, or whatever crustacean is fresh that day.

It's all about this transparency – from the large, street-facing picture window up front where you can glimpse the chef preparing the day's fresh catch to the owner's commitment to traceable, seasonal, locally-sourced seafood.

And while you should come for the oysters, you should stay for a menu that's stocked with classics like New England clam chowder and lobster rolls, plus soon-to-be traditional dishes like spicy green Thai curry mussels and Baja fish tacos with citrus cabbage slaw and chipotle-lame mayo.

Order from the take-out window or grab a seat at one of the Douglas fir high-top tables, designed by a local Brooklyn-based artist. Fortunately, you'll also find a small but eclectic beer and wine list, including draft rose from Gotham Project, Narragansett tall boys and local favorite Zywiec, a Polish beer.

Whatever you order will definitely put you in the mood...the mood to indulge in some seriously good seafood.
