Surly Celebrates Annual Release Of Darkness Brew

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (WCCO) – Beer lovers are flocking to Brooklyn Center Saturday morning to celebrate Darkness Day.

Darkness is the Surly Brewing Company's popular Russian Imperial Stout beer.

Every year Surly Brewing releases a new variety of the popular stout beer in style with a big party to celebrate.

More than a thousand people camped out at for Darkness Day.

There's only a limited amount and it's not cheap at $20 a bottle, but that didn't stop beer lovers from traveling across country to buy it.

"Some folks drove up from Kansas City, some people here from Philly, a couple Canadians here even–it's pretty amazing to see how far people come to get some beer and hang out and meet up with some old friends," an organizer said.

This is the 7th year for the event.

If you missed out on Darkness Day, it'll be in stores on Monday.
