Sugar And Plumm Fills Bellies On The Upper West Side

Thursday August 16 marked the official opening of the Upper West Side's latest treat, Sugar and Plumm. Amsterdam Avenue's newest bistro, bakery, and chocolatier is the product of a seamless partnership between confections connoisseur Lamia Jacobs, pastry chef Pichet Ong, and Parisian chocolatier Thierry Atlan. This is the second location for Sugar and Plumm, the original spot located just west of the Hudson River in Paramus, New Jersey.

In the press release, founder Lamia Jacobs said, "Sugar and Plumm is simply about happiness. You feel it when you walk in, and hopefully you taste it in your first bite!"

Jacob's lifelong dream was to open a shop inspired by her favorite foods in Paris and to share the love and personality of the quaint Parisian eateries she frequented as a young girl. Sugar and Plumm achieves just that, offering delicate French sweets like macarons and savory bistro dishes like buckwheat crepes with salmon and creme fraiche.

The bistro has quickly become a neighborhood favorite and has been serving streams of locals since opening day. The Daily Meal caught up with a Sugar and Plumm spokesperson, who said "We have been very busy and feel unbelievably welcomed and appreciated in the neighborhood. We are fortunate to already have many regulars, adults and kids alike."

Sugar and Plumm has a longer, more elaborate menu than most bistros and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. For breakfast, diners can have almost anything. The menu offers items like a Greek yogurt parfait, blue heirloom eggs, lemon ricotta pancakes, pulled pork and waffles, and an apple tatin crepe. The brunch and lunch menus contain a variety of fresh paninis and salads as well as heartier dishes like shrimp and grits, bread pudding French toast, and a Maine lobster roll.

Sugar and Plumm also has an extensive dinner menu which includes appetizers like salmon belly ceviche, hamachi crudo and main dishes like cilantro mojo NY strip and a rabbit confit salad. And we can't take our eyes off the milkshakes. From the peach cobbler milkshake to the waffle and bacon shake, it seems that there's nothing Sugar and Plumm hasn't thought of.
