State Agent Replaced Girl's Turkey Sandwich With Chicken Nuggets

In a surprising twist, a North Carolina state agent reportedly told a preschool girl that her homemade lunch wasn't nutritious enough, giving her chicken nuggets instead.

The offending meal consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, potato chips, and apple juice.

"What got me so mad is, number one, don't tell my kid I'm not packing her lunch box properly," the girl's mother told the Carolina Journal. "I pack her lunchbox according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn't really care for vegetables."

The North Carolina elementary school had a state official check lunches to make sure they meet USDA guidelinesone serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables.

School guidelines state that if something is missing, the school will provide an alternative.

In this case, the alternative was a meal consisting of chicken nuggets and other side dishes, but the girl only chose to eat three chicken nuggets, leaving everything else untouched.

Sources don't know why the lunch was disqualified, especially since the turkey sandwich would have covered protein, grain, and dairy servings.

Jani Kozlowski, fiscal and statutory policy manager for the division, told the Carolina Journal, "It sounds like the lunch itself would've met all of the standard[s]."
