St. Paul Zoo's Chipotle Edible Garden

Como Zoo's Chipotle Edible Garden is open again, and this 8,000 square feet attraction is working to encourage children to learn about and participate in at-home gardening.

On opening day (June 14) Chipotle gave away Roma tomato plants to the first 1,500 children to enter the garden, the Pioneer Press reports. Chipotle is the proud partner and sponsor of the attraction that is now in its third season.

The garden is filled with vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers, all of which have a part of the plant that is edible. The goal of the garden is to teach visitors about how you can grow produce at home and the variety that is able to grow in Minnesota.

Last year, the garden harvesting 509 pounds of produce for the animals of the zoo and another 1,009 pounds for St. Paul Recreational Centers.

The attraction is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and at noon the staff gives a talk about ways to harvest and prepare foods from the garden. For more information on the exhibit and a full list of the plants in the garden, visit the zoo's website
