Spring Forward, Spring Wines

Sponsored By Santa Margherita Exclusively presented by TERLATO WINES

Snowy or sunny climate, who doesn't get downright giddy over that extra hour of daylight? This year, the clock moves forward on March 11 — a perfect time to talk about some awesome spring wines. If you've been bundled up in blankets and bordeaux all winter (not that that's a bad thing!), it's time for a change of seasons.

Matchbook Rosé of Tempranillo 2010 (Central Valley, Calif.) $11

This wine screams "drink me outside" so it's perfect as the weather gets warmer. It's crisp and has hints of peaches and melon, which will of course make you think of what comes after spring: summer.

Beckman Vineyards "Purisima Mountain Vineyards" Rosé Grenache 2009 (Santa Ynez Valley, Calif.) $19

If you're looking for a rosé to kick off patio season, this is it. It's darker in color than many rosés and while a delicate cherry aroma starts you off, a punch of spice is how the wine ends.

Domaine Sigalas Assyrtiko 2010 (Santorini, Greece) $20

There's great value in many Greek wines, and this crisp white is no exception. Its mineraly, citrus aroma makes it a great enjoying-the-extra-hour-of-sun-before-dinner wine.

Amapola Creek "Monte Rosso Vineyard" Zinfandel 2009 (Sonoma Valley, Calif.) $42

Get the jump on summer with a spring BBQ. Light up the grill for the first time this season, selectively invite wine-worthy friends over, and try this spicy, full-bodied splurge. Burgers and ribs anyone?
