Despite repeated warnings that spicy food could potentially kill you (OK, OK, so your body would shut down before it could), spice fanatics everywhere can't seem to get enough of the latest trend — Trinidad's Moruga Scorpion pepper.
Albuquerque restaurant El Pinto has worked on bottling what they deem the spiciest salsa in the world, made with Trinidad Scorpion peppers (the same kind, CNN reports, that are used in pepper spray).
The pepper itself can reach up to 2 million Scoville units, while El Pinto's Scorpion Salsa is diluted to 12,000 Scoville units (note: a jalapeño reaches 4,000 Scoville units).
There's been some video buzz about the spicy salsa, which will be served at the National Fiery Foods & BBQ Show in Albuquerque, N.M., although none of them quite as entertaining as the NPR reporter trying a 1.5 million Scoville pepper. Watch below.
