Speedy's Sandwich Bar & Café: A Sherlock Favorite

Speedy's Sandwich Bar & Café, a small sandwich shop near Euston station, was a local favorite even before it became famous as a film site for BBC's Sherlock.  Since the Sherlock Holmes-inspired crime drama debuted in 2010, the café became a well-known tourist attraction, according to Daily Mail. The food, however, speaks for itself.

"When it comes down to it, the core values of our business have not changed at all. Quality food at reasonable pricing and exceptionally warm and hospitable service are what we like to think is key to have our customers return," a café representative told cultural magazine PopMatters. "Outside of Sherlock, we still have our regulars who come in day to day because they know they can come here and relax, [and] have some tasty, hot food!"

The sandwich café makes a great spot for breakfast or brunch, and Sherlock enthusiasts can order fan-created menu items like the "Sherlock" wrap, with chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, cucumber, lettuce, peppers, red onions, and chili sauce. The "John Watson" wrap, which was created in 2012 by fan Natalia Velasco, has roasted vegetables, spinach, tomatoes, spring onion, Brie, and sour cream. Both wraps reflect each character's personality, according to PopMatters. The cheddar cheese is "as sharp as Sherlock's tongue," and the vegetables and sour cream medley reflects Watson's "comforting" character with "slight edge."

Despite the fame brought on by the British show, Speedy's continues what it does best: serving good food in a cozy atmosphere.
